Red flags and high-pressure tactics to refuse

Most people who lose money in precious metals are not defrauded outright. They are sold the wrong product at the wrong premium by a very friendly person. These are the specific patterns to watch for.

The bait-and-switch to proof coins

You call about bullion at a modest premium. You end up with proof or 'exclusive' coins at 30% to 60% over melt, described as more private or more collectible. The premium is dealer margin and it almost never comes back on resale.

Selling to Capstone starts with weight, purity and condition verified in front of you, priced against the live market.

Selling gold and silver should begin with weight, purity and condition verified openly in front of you — before any number is quoted. The jeweler's loupe and precision scale in this scene are the anti-scam standard: a fair-market buy-back offer starts with verifiable measurement against the live spot price. Capstone Metals keeps a standing buy-back desk that quotes live on anything we sold you, with funds released on verification, and appraises outside holdings at the same transparent standard. Any buyer who quotes before weighing, or pressures you to skip verification, is showing you exactly the red flags this page lists.

Fear as a closing tool

Currency collapse countdowns, confiscation stories and one-day-only pricing exist to stop you from comparing quotes. Metal is a long-horizon ballast asset; nothing about it requires a same-day decision.

  • 'This price expires when we hang up'
  • 'Bullion gets confiscated, collectibles don't'
  • 'Move your whole 401(k) — paper is worthless'

Home storage IRA schemes

Any structure marketed to let you keep IRA metal in your own safe risks the account being treated as fully distributed, with tax and penalties. IRA metal belongs at an approved depository.

How to verify anyone, including us

Ask for the numbers in writing and check the record before you wire anything.

  • Get the premium over spot in writing, per product
  • Ask for the buy-back price on the same product, in the same call
  • Check complaint history with the BBB and your state regulator
  • Read the CFTC and FTC consumer advisories on precious metals fraud
  • Confirm the custodian and depository names independently

Rather just ask someone?

A specialist can answer this in two minutes. Monday – Friday, 7am – 4pm Pacific.

Would a short, no-pressure conversation help?

Leave your name and number. A Capstone specialist will answer your questions during business hours.

Most gold and silver firms can only talk to you about gold and silver. We have licensed advisors on staff, so the same conversation can cover your retirement accounts, your market holdings, insurance and estate structure alongside a completely private metals purchase — one fiduciary review of everything you own, not a sales call about one product.

What would you like help understanding? (optional)

By submitting your name and phone number you are asking us to follow up, and you agree that Capstone Metals may contact you by phone, text, or email to clarify what you are looking for and make sure you receive it. Message and data rates may apply. You can ask us to stop at any time by replying STOP or telling us on the phone, and we never sell or share your information. This is a request for information and a conversation — not a purchase, an application, or advice. Common questions

What is a fair premium over spot?
Common bullion coins and bars trade at modest single-digit to low double-digit premiums depending on product and market conditions. Anything approaching 30% or more over melt deserves a hard explanation.
Is gold ever confiscated?
The 1933 executive order is the story used to sell collectibles at a markup. There is no current rule that treats graded coins differently from bullion in your favour.
Should I ever buy on a first phone call?
No. A dealer worth using will send written pricing and let you sleep on it.
What does Capstone do differently?
Written premiums before funding, a standing buy-back quote on request, and no commission structure that rewards steering you into high-margin coins.
