This is the last coin in the America the Beautiful series — the 56th and final issue, struck in 2021 and never continued. That alone changes how the market treats it: a series-ending coin is the piece every set needs and the one the Mint cannot make more of.

The reverse honours the Tuskegee Airmen of Alabama, with a pilot looking skyward, P-51 Mustangs overhead and the Moton Field hangar behind, under the motto THEY FOUGHT TWO WARS — a reference to fighting fascism abroad and segregation at home. It is the most narratively direct design in the entire series.

Graded PCGS SP69 with the First Strike pedigree, awarded to coins submitted in the first weeks of release. Five ounces of .999 silver carry $346.95 at today's $69.39 spot; the balance is the certified grade, the pedigree, the series-ending status and single availability.

The Quarter Dollar Coin Redesign Act of 2008 created the America the Beautiful programme: 56 quarter designs, each also struck as a three-inch, five-ounce .999 fine silver coin — the largest coins ever produced by the United States Mint. The programme ran from 2010 to 2021, and the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site issue closed it.

The design, by Chris Costello and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, depicts a Tuskegee Airman in flight gear with aircraft above and Moton Field's hangar behind. The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African American military aviators in the United States Armed Forces, trained at Moton Field in Alabama from 1941; the 332nd Fighter Group flew more than 15,000 sorties over Europe. The motto on the coin, THEY FOUGHT TWO WARS, is the Mint's own summary of that record.

Because 2021 five-ounce mintages were small relative to early issues and the coin closes the set, certified Tuskegee examples have carried some of the strongest premiums of the late series. First Strike and First Day of Issue pedigreed pieces have consistently traded above the plain certified market.

Fifty-six designs ran from 2010 to 2021 and the Tuskegee Airmen issue ended the programme. Series-ending coins behave differently from mid-series issues: every completed set requires one, the mintage is fixed forever, and late-series five-ounce mintages were materially smaller than the early years.

SP denotes a specimen finish — the burnished bullion format of these coins. 69 is one point from perfect: fully struck with at most a trace mark under magnification. First Strike is a PCGS pedigree for coins submitted within the first weeks of release and verified at intake; it cannot be added later.
