Arches is the one collectors chase. The 2014 five-ounce issue was struck in one of the smallest quantities in the whole 56-coin programme, and Delicate Arch — the free-standing sandstone span on Utah's licence plates — is the most recognisable landmark the series ever put on a coin.

At three inches across, the reverse has room the quarter never had: the layered slickrock benches, the La Sal Mountains on the horizon, and the arch itself standing clear of the field. The vapour-blasted matte finish of the burnished five-ounce format gives the sandstone a genuinely geological texture.

Five ounces of .999 silver carry $346.95 at $69.39 spot. Everything above that is the low mintage, the certified holder and the fact that Arches sits near the top of every America the Beautiful want-list.

The Quarter Dollar Coin Redesign Act of 2008 authorised 56 quarter designs and a five-ounce, three-inch .999 fine silver version of each — the largest coins the United States Mint has ever produced, struck in Philadelphia.

Arches National Park in eastern Utah protects more than 2,000 natural stone arches, carved out of Entrada sandstone over roughly 100 million years by water, ice and salt movement beneath the rock. It was designated a national monument in 1929 and a national park in 1971. Delicate Arch, the 52-foot span on the coin, is the most photographed rock formation in North America.

The reverse was designed by Donna Weaver and sculpted by Charles L. Vickers; John Flanagan's 1932 Washington portrait appears on the obverse. The 2014 five-ounce mintages were among the lowest of the programme, and Arches has consistently been one of the strongest issues in the certified market as a result.
